Timeline   After Jared's Beating
It was the cold that woke her, a cold that had leached into her bones. Klingon ships were notorious for being hot and humid inside. She opened her eyes and discovered the reason for the cold.

She was not inside the ship.

Instinctively she panicked and flailed her limbs, only to find them tightly secured. She took a moment to take stock.

She was in a EVA suit, looking at a star field going past at warp, and she was tied firmly to something hard behind her. She turned her head slightly to see that she was on some sort of green metal plate, probably the side of a ship. She looked the other way and saw Jared, also in a suit, tied to the side of the ship smiling at her.

Leah's eyes where as wide as her gasps, frozen in fear so that the only thing she could think of was to try and remain with the hull.

"What in the hells!" turning her head so slightly to see Jared as if afraid if she moved mere inches she would be lost to the black nothingness of space. Leah tried to be rational, first and foremost her breathing since she didn't even know how much air she had left. Either fear or cold reality made it seem as she was having a hard time breathing now.

"Don't move about too much," Jared's voice came across the comm-link. She could see from the little light inside the helmet that the signal was encoded just for their suits - Klingon EVA suits were designed for the possibility of battle conditions.

"Now you're awake I can undo those bonds around your arms. But you must be careful not to move about much. I was only about to extend the inertial dampening field seventy or eighty centimetres beyond the hull. We're safe lying flat, but standing up would be... risky."

"All hell is breaking loose inside now, and given you're our guest I thought it would be the polite thing to do to keep you out of it. Unfortunately there's not many places to hide in a B'rel. Especially not from someone who's lived on her for several decades."

"So you figured strapping ourselves to the outside of a moving space vessel preferable..." Leah wasn't sure if he was just a lunatic or the captain was really that bad.

Jared shrugged.

"Ro looks like an old drunken washout at the best of times, but it's deceptive. He's drunk and frustrated because he's one of the best warriors you're likely to meet. But you give him a weapon and an enemy, and there's few who can take him in a fair fight. Probably no-one aboard the F'Hew. Except Hay'Legh perhaps, and only because she doesn't fight on Klingon terms."

"Every culture has something that gives them drive. Something that makes them who they are, and fires their soul. I've looked at your race's culture, and it seems to be love. It's the main focus of your songs, and all your energy goes into it."

"For Klingons, it's honour. Most people think it's battle, but that's just a part of it. Battle and Honour for Klingons is like Sex and Love for humans. They're not the same thing. Battle and Sex aren't even the heart of Honour and Love - just the most intense expression of it. The Klingons at the moment are just in the middle of finding out that Battle without honour is pretty empty for them. Your culture did the same a few centuries back."

"Ro' is an honourable man and a superb warrior, and he's almost living the life of a disgraced outcast. He's been bottling that up for years, but right now he's at breaking point. He needs a win. He need's a clear enemy in his line of sight, and a chance to beat them down and win the day. If he doesn't get it... he's going to tear the ship apart and then wake up in the wreckage."

They looked in silence for a moment at the starfield, flowing smoothly by.

"Bit like a plank... being held out here" Leah glanced back to the starfield.. it was frightning but a view few could ignore.

"A plank?" Jared asked quizzically.

"A plank.. it was a large flat board drawn out from a ship for execution.. much like the airlocks now. Pirates where said to... Pirates..."

Jared sighed.

"In times past I might have tried to get us to a trade world and find a bar with some Nausiccans or something, they're always up for a fight, but I don't know this space at all."

"No, I think I have an idea. The captain needs a diversion and I know right where to take him. Trust me he will be far to busy to worry about us."
