Timeline   The morning after the party
Jared stood at the entryway to the Mess. The rest of the ship had already been quite a sight, but this was... breathtaking. He'd seen Klingons celebrate before, but never quite on this scale.

Blood letting played a big part of the celebrations. Much of the food had been killed and eaten raw. It looked like the Targ had even managed to make a run for it while it was bleeding. Those who had been injured in the fight proudly bore the scars. Those who had not had taken the opportunity to be beatend and cut by their battle brothers in symbolic catharsis. Many were still standing.

Jared picked his way over several unconscious Beqs, and approached what... looked like it might be the captain. The figure wore the Captain's armour, but the face and hair were matted with blood, as if he had bitten out the targ's jugular with his own teeth. Not impossible to believe, Jared surmised. It was engrossed in singing a victory song with three other near unrecognisable figures.

Jared had to be a little bit careful. A Klingon's response to being taken my surprise was generally to stab something with a Duhk'Tagh. He made sure he was slightly out of reach.

"Ro?"

The figure didn't respond at once. The noise was palpable, so it was likely it did not hear him.

"RO!"

A Marine who was slightly closer nudged the Captain and pointed.

When the captain's bleary vision eventually focused on the TiQ, Jared waved.

"Jared!" Ro' roared with delight, "Look everyone, Jared has decided to join the fun!"

There was a roar of appreciation from around the rooms and at least one suggestion of a drinking contest.

"Good Morning Captain. Sorry to wake you, but I needed to talk to you about something, and I didn't think you'd want me to wait in this case."

Ro' tried to get up, and managed on the third attempt. He staggered over to Jared with a wavering smile, "Ready for breakfast, old man?"

He held a Targ lung in one fist. There was a roar of laughter and Ro' through it over his shoulder. "Now what is it that can't outwait a vat of blood wine?"

"I'm not great with politics, but am I right in understanding that House Matlh at the moment is well stocked for honour and status, but... a little light on for actual ships and armaments?"

As far as it was able Ro's face focused, "We have the FHew, and the F'Kew II, and the myshi.. mishisexi... I can't pronounce the Human version. You know the one. Big ship. Lots of guns."

"It's just that I know of a... I guess you'd call it a cache... of unclaimed weapons and abandoned ships. A rather sizeable cache. Not Klingon, but of a make few would recognise - good enough either to be used or traded for real Klingon vessels."

"Catch is... if you wanted it, we'd have to hurry. In a little over a week it'll have Federation and Romulan archaeologists crawling all over it."

Ro's brow furrowed, "Ships? Whose?

"Two types. Some are... like Romulan. Similar design influences, at least. The others... you wouldn't recognise. Not many would, nowadays. A little old, but probably still quite functional, with a little maintenance."

"We have served together for, what... twenty years? And you never mentioned this before?"

"I... wasn't really aware it was still there, until last night. There's a lot of things I remember that probably aren't there any more. It just turns out this place isn't one of them."

Ro' sighed, "How far away is it?"

"The Romulan/Federation neutral zone. About five days, depending on how hard we push the engines."

"Good, then the men can finished their party and we will get under way by tomorrow lunch time. Now," Here he reached for a standing mug of red liquid. "I have a bet with 'Iw'a'na' that she can't drink you under the table. There is a weeks Targpit duty ridding on it."

Jared smiled internally. The captain's favourite game with newcomers.

Externally he eyed the mug dubiously and sniffed it.

"I don't know, Captain! This stuff looks pretty potent. But I'll do my best!"

Ro' smiled and slapped him on the back.
