Timeline   After Ro' delivers the news
It couldn't be true! How could this have happened. Marla and her father were so happy, and now... The tears were pouring down Marla's face. They were burning hot tears, but she could not stop them. As many times as Marla had to deal with being Half-Human, her Father had always been there for her. Now... Now he wasn't... Her cry was so loud that Tell could hear it down the corridor.

Tell was walking back to her quarters. She wore her overalls and was covered in grease, engine oil and swearing like a Klingon trooper. She had to take apart some of her engine manifold joints and reattach new ones. They just happened to be too big and so she had taken the warp drive off line, much to Ro's annoyance and re modelled them. They would hold until they reached another shipyard and she would have to replace them again. Wrapped up only in the thought of having at least three showers to clean the grime of her Tell at first didn't recognise the sound until she was nearly at her door.

When her door opened she realised that the sound was coming from Marla. Tell had never seen her Klingon friend so upset before. She was ready to defend her friend from whoever had caused her so much grief.

Tell sat by her friend and out her small arm around her friends large shoulders.

"What's happened?" she asked gently "Are you ok?"

Marla did something that she knew no Klingon would ever do. She jumped up and just hugged Tell. She needed the comforting hug of a friend right now, and knew Tell would give her that. After a few moments she backed off, and explained herself.

"Tell, I have just found out that my father has died. I don't know how yet, but..." She broke down again.

"Marla, I'm so sorry to hear that." replied Tell quite taken aback by the sudden show of emotion from her Klingon friend and placed her hand on her friends arm to offer support. "What can I do for you?" and Tell pulled up a chair and sat down next to her.

"We are headed home to find out what happened, and so I can bury my father. I just want you to be there."

"If that's what you would like me to do, then I will." replied Tell honestly. Marla was her one good friend aboard this ship and they had shared good times and bad times together. Tell would do anything for her. "I don't have to fight another Klingon do I?" One was enough thought the engineer for anybody.

Through clenched teeth, Marla responded. "No... The Klingon is mine..."

"Any one we know?"

"No. Someone back home."

Tell nodded in reply "What do we need to do then?"

"When we get home, I am going to find the petaQ!"

Tell nodded aware of what the word was and the power of her friends voice behind it. "I pity him already. Lets hope you find him quick and you get the job over and done with."

"Oh, I hope we find him quick too." Marla still wasn't quite sure what she was going to do when she found him, but she knew she had to figure it out soon.
