Tell, Marie, Marla, Thor'nan and HIchop all managed to find each other at the junction between the two research wings. Somewhere and alarm was sounding and there seemed to be an awful lot of people running around and ignoring them.

"I was all for getting some proof of what's going on here," Marie said over the din of the klaxons, "but now I'm all for getting the hell out of here."

"I'm with you on that one. " said Thor'nan.

"Lets go then." said Tell "Try not to get us captured everyone."

Thor'nan's hand went to his lower back, briefly touching the hilt of his Mek'leth. They were there for when he needed them, but that time hadn't come yet.

There was yelling from the Cargo bay and a moment later they saw a Klingon running at full pelt around the corner and towards them. Behind May'bel (since that is who it was), came one of the humans who had been working at offloading cargo. The second human emerged from the corner, but before he was fully visible something gripped him and ripped him backwards where his scream was cut very short.

May'bel bellowed as he approached, "We are not getting out that way!"

Marla just stood back next to Tell. Out of everyone here, she knew Tell more, and knew she would be able to team up with Tell and work to fight against any danger.

Thor'nan noticed the look on May'bel's face. The Klingon was in full combat mode. Thor'nan knew this was the time. He drew both of his Mek'leth and stood firm, waiting.

"OK," Marie said. "If we can't go that way, which way can we go? The way back that Hope and I came along doesn't lead off this base."

Thor'nan growled, adopting a fighting stance, "May'bel and I will hold the rear; you lot find a way out of this mess!"

May'bel glanced at the twin blades in the warriors hands and thought about what he had seen in the cargo bay, "I am not one to normally back away from a fight but I am not suicidal either. Let's make this a strategic withdrawal."

Hichop could feel his pulse race and the adrenaline running through his veins. With his crew he pulled his weapons. What was coming from around the corner? One thing seemed sure. There would be no running and blood would be spilled. A glorious day.

Here we go again, Marie thought. If one of those Klingons says Today is a good day to die, I will personally throw him to whatever it is that's got May'bel so spooked. Mind you, the rational part of her brain added, it must be bad if even he doesn't want to go up against it!

"Sound like a good plan to me," she said to Thor'nan.

At that point a team of four Security guards rushed past the group towards the loading bay. Each carried a phaser rifle. They turned the corner and a moment later there was a scream then phaser fire. Another scream. A single phaser rifle then a rattling gurgle and silence.

"As I was saying..." May'bel reminded them.

"Look, everyone's going to be trying to get off this base," Marie said, exasperated that no-one would make a decision. "Obviously down there's not the way to go but there's got to be other ways. The Federation does not build stations with only one exit point. I say we go back in the other direction and meld in with a group of evacuees. We follow them and join them as they get into a runabout or escape pods or whatever."

"We're extra bodies; there may not be enough pods onboard. " said Thor'nan.

"They usually have more pods than crew. Anyway," she said pointing where the technicians had gone, "worst comes to worst we can take theirs. It not as if the pods will have individual name tags on them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off before whatever it is down there comes around the corner and decides it fancies me for lunch!"

"You don't have enough meat on your bones to be anything's lunch, Marie. Maybe a snack." said Thor'nan.

"Good. Maybe I'll get away while you do the Klingon thing and offer yourself up instead. I'm not about to find out. Come on." She turned and ran in the opposite direction. She had no clear idea where she was going – in fact, she had no idea at all – but anywhere was preferable to here.

Hichop was not about to leave Marie by herself and unprotected with monsters running loose and so he followed. From what he had gleaned from the science computers the research was on a new life form with significant body armor, and even under attack could take significant damage and still be a threat to the attack. Some of the research even spoke about weaponising the creatures blood. If we got out we would need to report what we had discovered but the limited information Hichop had collected may not be enough.

The group moved backwards as a unit with Thor'nan and HIchop at the rear and Marie and May'bel leading. they arrived at a wall where ASRVs were located, but most had already been detached. They got to one which still had not been launched. It was flagged as occupied but was not ejecting. Tell did some technical trickery to the panel and the door opened to reveal an empty 8 man escape pod.

Empty except for the blood sprayed over the walls.

And the body pieces.

And the torn and twisted metal where something had climbed right through the outer hull. This pod was useless.

The group noticed the noise had died down around the rest of the station. This was not necessarily a good thing.

They moved quickly along checking other pods till they found one open and unoccupied. Quickly they climbed inside and Tell and Marla began to secure Thor'nan, May'bel and HIchop into seats.

Marie looked round to find the control panel. The pod was unfamiliar to her. It took vital seconds to find the controls and start the eject sequence. A small computer voice began to intone.

- Ejection sequence will commence in ... 30 ... seconds. Ensure your restraints are secure and any luggage is stowed safely. -

Marie sat quickly into a chair and Marla strapped her in.

- Ejection in 25 seconds. -

Tell strapped Marla down next.

- Ejection in 20 seconds. -

Tell turned towards her own chair which was between HIchop and Thor'nan but before she reached it they heard the sound of tearing metal.

- Ejection in 15 seconds. -

With a loud thump the frame of Tell's chair buckled in front of her as if some giant weight had crashed against it. A second thump and the padding tore away as metal pieces forced their way through from beneath. Thor'nan grabbed at his blades, but strapped down as he was, he could not reach behind himself properly. HIchop began to struggle with his clip to get free. May'bel drew a D'k'tahg and began cutting his own restraints.

- Ejection in 10 seconds. -

A hand, black and lean, topped with bladed claws, forced it's way through the wall of the ASRV and began to flail, trying to find something to grip. May'bel was free of his chair and about to plunge his blade into the arm, but HIchop remembered what he read about even the blood being a weapon.

"Ghobe!" He bellowed.

The arm reacted instantly latching onto the sound and swinging a slash across HIchop, plunging claws deep into his chest. A fountain of purple blood erupted form his mouth.

- Ejection in 5 seconds. -

The metal tore further and something began to emerge. They could not see it clearly in the dull red emergency lighting, but whatever it was, in five seconds it would be alone with them in an ASRV without any hope of rescue.

That is when the Transporter activated.

A moment later the group were all looking at the smiling face of Jared, who tapped the Com, "I have them. Let's go."

Tell had never been so glad to see him and afforded him a small smile. Which was very rare. She hoped that HIchop would make it. It wouldn't be the same with out him. "I'll get him to sickbay." she said.

"That place should be renamed the U.S.S. Frankenstien," Marie said then proceeded to throw up.

Hichop was injured and spewing blood. The pain was significant but there was work to do. Bashing and stumbling past everyone he ran to the medical bay. Grabbing what looked like a human cheese grater he plunged it I to his wound and pulled it out. It was covered in flesh and dripping blood. Starting to get dizzy from his loss of blood he set his federation medical tricorder to scan the sample he had just taken. Stumbling towards the medicine fridge he opened the door to put the sample and tricorder in.  As he reached for the shelf he realised vision was failing and could feel himself blacking out. He willed himself through putting the items in. It would be up to others now to fix the hole so he could recover.

Thor'nan returned his blades to their place at the small of his back, and nodded.

"I enjoyed that," he said.

"Only a Klingon could say that," Marie muttered. She coughed deeply, causing her stomach to spasm. All she could do was dry retch.

"You okay? " asked Thor'nan.

Marie looked up, her face pale. Amend that, she thought. Only a human pretending to be a Klingon. Even the Klingons aren't that stupid.

"I saw enough of that thing to know I never want to see the rest of it," she said. "Whatever it is, it's an abomination. And, no, I'm not okay. I don't make a habit of throwing up. But don't you worry, I'll get over it."

Tell ran for HIchop and started immediate first aid. She injected him with a pain killer and tried to staunch his blood. "Dammit don't you dare die on me."She yelled "Tell what next to do, do you hear me. Tell me what to do."

Hichop came around long enough to see it was Tell. He pointed to a peace of equipment that fortunately Tell got in one. He grabbed it from her and pointed it to the wound and glared at her before goining again. The equipment looked Federation. The question was did Tell know how to use it. Just point and press and it would cauterize the wounds and regenerate the dermal layer. The blood loss would take care of it's self. He passed out again.
