The wedding present from Chris Maxx was overly large and in so many bits. Tell had no idea what it was and it was going to take her a long time to put what ever it was together. In her work shop she could only gaze at the bulk that was strewn across her floor like a huge jigsaw. It would help if she had a picture to go by, but Chris had probably thought that would spoil her fun.

She had been given a years supply of Guiness from the Shebeen and Tell had stored that away where the others couldn't find it. This was for winning the open mike that first night on Qu'nos. Much of it was a hazy drunken blur but she knew it would be a long time before she could even attempt to look at a Guiness again, never mind drink it. She shuddered at the thought remembering just how much of it she'd had.

She flexed her right arm it was stiff and painful again. The twinge she suddenly felt made her wince as it had done some many times lately. It had never felt right since her encounter with the Borg and had been steadily getting worse. She had tried to push the pain away and get on with things. Painkillers helped but she needed some stronger ones and decided to go down to Sickbay to help herself as usual.

Germite was looking through Hlchop's files that he had amassed over his time working in medical. There was a lot of garbage, but he found enough useful information to continue his search. He heard the door to sickbay open. Without looking up he addressed the figure, "nuqneH." (What do you want).

"Just some painkillers." Tell replied opening one of the drawers expecting to find some there but there wern't any. Obviously things had been moved around in sickbay recently. "Where are they now have you moved them Doctor?" Don't say doom she told herself, don't call him Dr Doom.

Germite looked over to Tell, "I was led to believe that Klingons didn't need such substances, so I've reduced out inventory and placed them in locked containers."

"But I'm not Klingon." Tell replied trying not to sound awkward or annoyed. After all she didn't want to get on the bad side of the Dr. "I just need some painkillers thats all so that I can get back to work."

Germite nodded his head and pointed towards a chair. "Why don't you have a seat and tell me about this pain you're experiencing. In my experience, painkillers tend to be a temporary solution. For you to be able to function at your best, we need to find a permanent solution."

Pain was a sign of weakness to Tell an irritant, meant to be fought off and then spaced. She didn't have time for it, she had too much to do. Seeing that she wasn't going to get anywhere fast, she relented and surrendered for the time being.

"I'll warn you now Doctor. I don't make a very good patient." she told him "If I lash out its nothing personnel you understand." She took the seat offered whilst at the same time wishing she was somewhere else.

"That's okay. Tell me about your pain, or, specifically, why you need painkillers."

Tell sighed inwardly trying to keep her anger in check and fight the impulse to break any part of his body. "Look Dr I have a pain in my right arm. I had a fight with a Borg sometime ago and a piece of metal got stuck in my arm. I pulled it out, treated myself but its not really healed since then. I figured I just needed painkillers."

Germite stood up and walked over to a table. He selected a Federation Medical Tricorder. "This isn't the whiz bang tech that they use on the current starships, but I picked up it surplus and it seems to work pretty well." He scanned her arm.

The tricorder beeped several times as he passed it back and forth over Tell's arm. "How long has it been like this?"

"A few weeks, perhaps a month." she told him

"Do you have any restrictions on movement? Is it sore? Or does it just hurt?"

"Danm it Doctor to many questions, yes to all of them" she snapped "Just... oh ever mind. Just sort me out so that I can get on with the rest with my life."

"Do you want me to fix it correctly or would you rather I just amputate it." He looked closer at the tricorder. "I'm surprised it hasn't fallen off all on its own." Germite walked over to a table and picked up a hypospray. He dialed some settings on it before walking back to Tell. He pointed to a screen on the wall and pressed a button. "Can you read me those letters."

"E, F, P What the hell has this got to do with my bloody arm." she yelled

He waited until Tell's attention was on the screen, then pressed the hypospray against Tell's arm and activated it.

She heard the hiss to late to do anything about it and her vision blurred. She slumped forward as darkness overtook her.

Germite hefted Tell's body over his shoulder and layed her onto the operating table. "Now that you're asleep, I can operate on you properly. He strapped her down just to make sure she didn't wake up and interrupt his surgery. After a quick incision, Germite found an offending piece of metal. It was actually a piece of shrapnel just touching a chip that had been attached to Tell's arm. He removed both the shrapnel and the chip and dropped them into separate plastic containers. He would have to study the chip later. Germite picked up the dermal regenerator and closed the wound.

Germite debated the merits of waking Tell up right away or letting her sleep for a little while. In the end he decided that he needed her awake to ask her about the microchip. He adjusted his hypospray and pressed it against her arm.

Tell opened her eyes slowly at first unsure of where she was and then fixed her glare on the Doctor. "You sneaky...." she began and tried to sit up and found she couldn't.

Gemite picked up the containers and walked over to Tell. He set them down where she could see. He pointed to the container with the shrapnel. "I removed this from your arm." He then pointed at the other container with the microchip, "While I was in there, I found this. Do you have any idea where you picked it up?"

Tell sat up and looked at the two containers and felt relieved that the offending objects had been removed. She was free of pain for the first time in weeks. "Thank you Doctor for your help" she told him "I have no idea what this thing is."

Germite took the container back from Tell. "Perhaps, Jared will be able to discern its function."
