Timeline   After the shockwave has passed
Ro' Staggered onto the bridge. Smoke and haze almost obscured vision and the atmosphere recyclers had simply given up. He arrived next to his chair to find HIchop in it.

Glancing round he saw Tell had left for engineering, Marla was rerouting power, and Marie was trying to put out the fire in the helm station. Thor'nan was dragging 'Iw'a'na' past him into the corridor and off to medical, where Germite had returned to work on Jason.

"Someone get this beq out of my chair," Ro' growled.

May'bel took a step forward to comply but as he HIchop rose form the chair something made him hesitate. There was a certain confidence that he had not seen in the smooth headed warrior before.

Ro' nodded, "ToH!"

With a sudden spin he lashed out with the back of his fist. Even though HIchop was expecting it the force of the blow lifted him up and over the back of the captain's chair and dropped him at Jared's feet. Ro' sat in his chair and pressed the comms button for the ship wide speakers.

"Secure all stations and report to the Bridge."

"Fire damage to helm," Marie reported. "I don't know if we have spare parts. I had to jettison a lot of cargo to make good our escape from that explosion."

Tell had to force her way into engineering and what she saw she didn't like. No damage to the core at least but her beloved engine had certainly taken a battering. She would be able to fix some of the repairs herself until they could reach a ship yard and replace some of the parts. She quickly sealed off valves and shut down damaged panels but the air still smelt rancid. One of the pumps had a crack in it so she sealed it off until she could affect repairs.

When the crew were assembled in the Bridge Ro' stood to address them.

"We won a great victory today, against an impossible foe. Many of you rose above and beyond for the call of duty."

He turned to Marie, "You accepted death for the sake of this ship and her crew. When the time came you were not found wanting, Soghla' St Helene. However, if I hear of you questioning a senior officer's orders again, as you did twice today, I will personally break your jaw so you are unable to answer back. Is that understood?"

“Then you’d better have your fist ready,” Marie replied. “This ship needs you. You! Not me, not Tell, not HIchop for all that we play necessary roles. Even Jared can’t replace you. If you want to go out in glorious battle and have songs sung about you for all eternity; fine. But if so, you have my resignation because I won’t be joining you.”

She stood up tall, waiting for the blow, ready for it. This is going to hurt!

Ro' just laughed and pointed a finger at her, "Now THAT is the Marie I have come to know. Taunt, jibe, bluster and blow, but do not challenge a direct order. Oh, with Jason out of action, I will require you to take the helm once again."

He turned to Tell next, "You were my first officer. I gave you an order to return to the ship. You argued with me, which is the right of a First officer, only if you have a blade to back your argument. When you were given control of the ship you abandoned it to another. That is not what I need as a first officer. You seem unable to drag yourself away from your engines, so you may return to them."

Tell glared at Ro' and hit her fist on the table with such a force as to loosen any fittings on the wall. She would have flew across the table at him but she also knew that she would be the worse off for it and so breathed out slowly and counted herself lucky that she was still alive.

"Aye Sir" was her only reply

He turned to HIchop, who was having his face iced by Germite, ad stabbed a finger at him, "YOU! When the need for a Captain came, you stood up. You would not be put of by threats or difficulties. You disobeyed my orders, but as the man in the captain's chairs you are under no obligation to follow orders. You are just what I need as my new first officer."

HIchop grunted and smily said "Sir". He never saw himself being accepted to such a high role. Would this mean that the stigma of his appearance would be behind him. It probably mattered not. He was pleased he had proved himself.

"In fact I hear you refused orders from everyone except one person."

Here Ro's focus shifted onto the Human doctor, "You were able to give swift decisive orders which everyone from Tierk to HIchop followed without question. That is officer material if ever I saw it, Sogh Ephilom."

Germite cocked his head to the side, "A Sogh, HoD? I only patched up a couple of wounded warriors. I would hardly consider that to be enough to merit promotion."

Ro' rolled his eyes, "Great. ANOTHER human who feels the need to question my decisions. You gave orders in an emergency which everyone obeyed, even my new first officer, without question. Even I can't get them to do that. Regardless of what you have heard, you do not need to kill your superior to get promoted, you only have to get everyone else to agree to accept your authority. You have managed to do that without the need for violence. That is still acceptable."

Now he turned to his tactical officer, "Thor'nan, was the destruction of the ship complete? How many casualties did we have?"

"One dead, two injured," Thornan replied quickly.

Ro' let out a long sigh, "Then we had best retire to Station choti' for repairs and crew rotation. By the time we get there, I expect to here a very good song out of you, Old one."

"Marla, repair the Helm and get us under-way. Tell I want Warp power as soon as possible. Marie, get the atmosphere processors running. Thor'nan, cloak, shields, weapons, in that order. HIchop, help Germite with the injured. Tierk, stabilise the SIF and IDS. May'bel, given Marie dumped our food supply you will need to find replicator rations that are palatable. Jared, scour the ship and make sure we have no guests. I doubt you will need any help."

He stood from his chair once again, "I will be reporting to the High Council and to Starfleet."
