Timeline   Seconds after the Asteroid explosion.
"There!' J cried, pointing to a sudden flash of light on the screen. The monitor zoomed in on a slowly expanding explosion of light and energy which completely consumed the asteroid it was centred on. After a moment, the image of a B'rel ship could be made out slowly spinning out of the fireball. It slowed itself to a near stop then began a collision course for one of the largest ships nearby.

"That has to be the Klingon, Ro'." J smiled. He called to the air, "Helm move us to intercept. Signal the fleet to take no precipitous action."

The Corporation's luxury cruiser moved quickly between that larger insect bulks until it was in front of the FHew. The ship was flying on directional thrusters only, barely making 1000km an hour.

J turned to Lieutenant Moonshadow, "I will open a channel. I believe it is your turn to talk to an ally."

Linx nodded. She had just realized how difficult this mission might be, and reconsidered briefly, but it wasn't safe for her back home either. This was truly her chance to escape.

"Thank you, I believe talking to them would be helpful."

"Channel open. You may speak freely."

"Greetings IKC FHew, this is Lieutenant Linx Moonshadow. I have been asked to transfer aboard your vessel. Might I come aboard?"

On the bridge of the Fhew there was some confusion. The crew were all set on a suicide ram raid, the only viable aggressive option they had available. Yet instead of being shot from the skies by the insectoid fleet, this strange ship had appeared and a Federation officer had radioed them.

"All stop," Ro' growled. "Open the channel."

"This is HoD Ro' Matlh of the IKC Fhew. I have received no notification of your arrival. In any case, I believe we are about to be destroyed by this hostile fleet, so perhaps now is NOT the best time to embark with us, Lieutenant."

"When is?" muttered one of the Beq at the back of the bridge but by the time Ro; turned to see the speaker all were looking perfectly innocent.

The radio crackled to life again, "Greetings to you and your crew, Captain Matlh, from the Express Post. I am her commander, J, and I represent the Corporation. We have brought Lieutenant Moonshadow to you, at the request of the Klingon Empire and Federation, as they were having some difficulty finding you. I assure you that the situation has been explained to the Ixthoid fleet which now surrounds you and, provided you do not take any further aggressive action towards them, they are willing to let you pass unharmed. Consider this a goodwill gift on our part."

Ro' looked around for the loud grating sound and realised it was HIchop grinding his teeth.

"That is very considerate of you, Captain J...." Ro' began.

"Please, call me J."

"....bringing out a Federation officer, calling off a attacking fleet. My understanding of the Corporation was they were not prone to generosity."

"Captain, you wound me. We, at the Corporation, pride ourselves for our generous and giving nature. Right now, I would like to offer you, and your crew, an invitation to dinner, so we can meet, and hand over the good Lieutenant."

Ro' looked around at the crashing sound and saw HIchop had put his fist through a control panel.

"We will come armed," Ro' warned.

"You are Klingon warriors. I would expect no less. Indeed, I am looking forward to seeing exactly what you carry with you. We shall make preparations. Shall we say an hour. We don't want the Gagh to get lethargic. Do you have any Targ you could bring. I believe a slaughter is customary at a feast, and our supply is...limited."

"One hour, with Targ and weapons," Ro' agreed.

"Excellent. Lieutenant Moonshadow and I will be waiting."

The line went dead and Ro' turned to his crew.

"From what I am given to understand, the Corporation is not a race so much as a conglomerate of commercial interests that make the Ferrengi look like a roadside lemonade stand. If they are helping, you can be sure there is some major gain to be had for them. At the moment, there is also a significant gain to be had for us. The longer we can stall, the more time we have to effect repairs to our weapons and drive systems. JaqwI', that means you. Marcus, I want you here on Helm and teHbach on weapons so we know the instant we can fight our way out."

"However, for this to work we need to take enough crew over to convince them that we are really interested in talking and enjoying a meal. So I need a large contingent. HIchop, as first officer, I will need you there. Who else will go with me?"

Now that Marcus was at hand to take over the Helm, Germite stood up. "There is little for me to do here at the moment, I will join the party."

Marie had been listening to all this over the ship’s comms. “I’m good at diplomacy,” she said. “I’ll go.”

Tell thought she could do with a night out after all that she has been through. She needed to do some serious drinking and it wouldn't do any harm to get a clean uniform. This one smelt like it came from the back end of beyond.

"Yeah, OK, count me. But I don't mingle and I don't do small talk. I hope the food's good; anything is good as long as its not Klingon."

"Raktajino'a?" asked JaqwI. "Qatu'vIS Datlhutlhu 'ej Dabepbe'." [What about our raktajino/i>? You drink our raktajino, I've seen you and you don't complain.]

"It's a 'passable' coffee substitute," Tell replied.

"wIbbe'a' Dalo'moH." [You put too much sugar in it.]

"I do not," replied the engineer nonchalantly. And since when did he notice just how much sugar she puts in her coffee?

Ro' acknowledged each with a nod, "Jared, I want to keep you hidden. I don't want to put all our pieces out for the Corporation to view. May'bel you come with us. Do you have anything more explosive than a grenade in your gear?"

"No," the warrior replied.

"Good, then bring it too," Ro' countered.
