She remembered taking too long. Shivas had warned her to get out, but Mariaa'n didn't let just anyone tell her what to do. And then Tambrooke had been there and she had not had time to run. He had a disruptor and she...

There is a flash of white light and a ringing noise in Mariaa'n's ears. For a moment she is dazed and disoriented, and she feared she might have been hit with a low stun disruptor.

As her vision cleared and her sense returned however she found herself in a ballroom. She recognized it at once. This was Larbupash IV; a well know venue for weapons traders like her. The Orions had been planning on sending her here to talk to Treman.

Treman represented the Corporation. Although their sphere of influence was small it was absolute in a way that may the Orion Syndicate look like a Federation Non interference survey. The Orions were very interested in something they had to offer, and in truth their technology was centuries ahead of anything else in the area, and there was no one talking about where they got it.

Now she was in Treman's Mansion, in the east Wing ballroom, judging by the giant window that made up one entire wall.

Around here were people looking good naturedly dazed and confuse, and the party was obviously going well. She was wearing the outfit of an attendant, rather than an entertainer, which must mean she was trying to keep a low profile. The crowd moved and many danced to the up music from the small orchestra. At the far end of the room was a raised Dais with Treman standing on it. He looked troubled.

As she was considering her next move something happened in front of her. One of the waiting staff pushed over to the serving bench next to her and placed down a covered dish.

“Lady Theressa is otherwise occupied,” she announced to everyone and no-one in particular.

A man at the bench sneered. "And what do you expect me to do with..." he lifted the cover, "... a pile of hand guns?"

That caught Mariaa'n's attention. From where she stood she could see that piled on the plate were a pair of high yield Disruptors, a grenade, a clip together Plasma caster, and a Flaming Rita (a particularly nasty device that spews napalm randomly over a wide area).

"I...thought weapons weren't allowed at the symposium?" one woman said carefully.

It was true. Security was always tighter than a Vulcan's sphincter at these things and NO weaponry was allowed. How did that lot get in here and what were they for?

"Perhaps Lady Theressa is assisting Treman," the man supplied, carefully replacing the lid, "Though I would expect the Corporation's lead Weapons trader to deal in something a little more advanced than spare Klingon weaponry."

The waitress with the tray suddenly looked panicked.

“They’re props,” she said quickly. “They’re very, very good fakes with very real noises. Lady Theressa wanted them for a little stunt she’s putting on at the end of the evening. A bit like fireworks but more high-tech. She wanted it to be a surprise. Anyway, the rules on weaponry meant she had to be discreet.”

The waitress snatched up the plate and replaced the lid before anyone could recover enough from this blatant confection of lies to challenger her and dove back into the crowd.

Maria'an watched the plate load of guns. Her mind felt like it was crawling as she tried to put together what was happening.

No way they are not real; she's been around enough to know. The capacitors were charged, albeit less than full. Certainly enough for her to see at a glance, and enough to kill. Someone wants someone else dead, but who?

Maria'an was confused, struggling to get a coherent thought through. Last thing she could clearly remember was a gun to her head. Where is she? Why is she dressed like a... waitress? Surrounded by people she doesn't know though some were vaguely familiar.

She had seen the pics of the east wing ballroom but the reality was another thing entirely. Mind still crawling, all she thought was, "This is just the wing? What kind of place is this? And why is that waitress so nervous?"

Maria'an felt she is important somehow. Must keep that waitress in view; must find the answer.

Maria'an stumbled after her, but everyone is jostling her. Must keep the waitress in sight!

Suddenly she almost bumped into her. The woman was now standing next to a rather wiry figure in green.

Bon appetit,” the waitress said as she thrust the plate in the hands of the woman in green. She tried to duck away before a word could be said but the other woman was to quick. Perhaps this was Lady Theressa? Whoever the woman was, she obviously didn't realize the importance of the plate and shoved it into the startled hands of the Orion woman before grabbing the waitress.

"Just wait a damned minute," said said dragging the other back. "Where the hell are we?"
