Location   USS Nobel
The USS Nobel was en route to Starbase 270 with a passenger load of 328 injured miners. The Recalax Mining operation on the Klingon world of YuQDoq had suffered a catastrophic failure. Although it was a Klingon world a lot of the workers were not Klingon; a mixture of Human, Bajoran, Andorian, Telarite, and a few others.

Conditions on YuQDoq were harsh and unforgiving. Luckily the planet was owned by House Matlh, a House which was supportive of medical personnel and also had an active Ambassador on a Federation station. The Nobel had been in the area and, with the CMO's proficiency in Xeno-medicine it had been an obvious choice.

There had been 639 miners on site. 264 had died before the emergency response teams could get to the site. Most of the personnel had to be evacuated but a number remained behind to maintain the company's lucrative claim.

They were now less than a day away from Starbase 270, back securely in Federation space. The patients were all stabilized and the CMO received a summons to the Captain's Ready room.

Captain Benzado was a betazoid, and a skilled medic and captain. She always said it helped to be able to know how the patient felt without having to ask, but that was precisely the reason most Betazoids avoided the profession. When the door opened the captain was behind her desk reading a PADD and rubbing her temples. It was a sign she was not liking what she was reading.

"Come in, Mike," She said, using the Lieutenants nickname. "How do we stand for handover on Starbase 270?"

"I think the Starbase is going to struggle with the amount of injured we have, I would suspect we will have to stay on as an attachment hospital while they treat and discharge those that are least injured Sir." Mike pulled out her own PADD, checking her own data. "Most will require another week in hospital before they can be discharged. Very few will be able to walk off this ship without assistance. I don't know there's much else I can do for those on board until we get there."

Mike paces in front of the Captain's desk.

"There is one thing though. There seems to be a lot of tension between some of our passengers. Some are complaining about being in such close proximity to others from other races. The Andorians' are threatening to issue Ushaan to a number of the other passengers. I have posted extra security and have shuffled the arrangement of the quarters as to not mix the Andorians' in with the others. No sense making more work for ourselves, right Captain?"

Benzado pinched her nose, "How do these people work together for nine months if they can't do a four day trip without killing someone?"

She sat forward again, "Something else has come up. They are bringing a training crew of the latest Academy graduates to 270; seems the trip coincides with our visit. They have earmarked this crew for an collaborative KDF/UFP task force attached to Ulysses Fleet. Seems they are going to have a bunch of Klingon combat experts in to show the young'uns how to deal with Klingon culture and command structure."

"They want you to be there too. Apparently the Federation logs on Klingon medicine are still almost non existent. They are hoping you will be able to pick up a thing or to from them. Seems they actually have a ship's medic who might be able to help you."

"Personally, I think you are needed here, but I know you are keen on the whole Xeno-Medicine thing so I could hardly say no, since we are docked with the injured anyway."

She looked at her Medical Officer, "So... you ready go in with a bunch of Klingons?"

Mike stops pacing for a moment, pondering her options. 'This could be interesting,' she thought.

"Sure, why not? I have been itching to get back into the thick of thing for a while now, and this provides the perfect opportunity. Plus it will let me test my own combat skills against a Klingon, something I have yet to do. Will there be anything else for the time being Sir?"

"Please don't get yourself killed fighting Klingons. I am given to believe they are not very understanding about that kind of thing," the captain didn't need to be telepathic to sense the excitement in the CMO. "Just make sure your logs are up to date for hand over. Dismissed, and... Cap-lar or whatever it is they say."
