Vision swam. Muffled sounds came to his ears and lights flashed past his sight. His feet dragged against grating floor plates. Someone was carrying him. There was a fire in his veins and his breathing hurt. He tried to speak but it came out as a hacking cough.

Hands put him gently to the floor and his vision focused on boots either side of him. Someone was calling his name; asking him questions. He glared up at the hairy face of Jared whose mouth was moving and making sounds, but it was not clear what.

Jared shook his head and he was lifted again. He felt himself leaned against a control panel. He managed to grip the sides to hold him up. Someone punched his shoulder and he hear someone say, "Well, we've got HIchop to a station. Mike, get down to medical and start handing out the rest of that hypo spray to the Klingons."

Bruce air turned back to his helm station, "Tell and Marie are back on board. We are getting the hell out of here. Releasing docking clamps. Reverse one quarter Impulse, thrusters at station keeping."

There was a sudden shudder and the ship stopped moving.

"Red Alert! Battle stations! Captain Tell to the Bridge!"

With in seconds Tell was on the bridge. "Why the devil are we not moving like a bat out of hell?" she shouted to all there. "More power to the engines, reverse and shake us loose if we have to."

When she walked onto the bridge, Marie was still feeling more than peeved at not receiving her promised present. Someone was going to pay for that. The ship bucked, forcing her to focus her thoughts on more immediate matters.

She hurried across to her post at Tactical. The news was not good.

“They’ve got us in a tractor beam,” she reported. “Weapons aimed and locked.”

"Our weapons or theirs?" Tell called.

“Theirs,” Marie replied in a voice that clearly indicated she thought the question pointless. “Do you think I’ve locked our weapons onto ourself?”

Tell shrugged. On this ship, anything's possible sometimes, she thought.

"Can we send a repulse beam through the tractor beam to dismantle or reduce the tractor beam effect by half?" Tell asked.

Marie thought quickly. “You could remodulate our tractor beam emitters to the opposite phase of the station's. That’d set up interference patterns which should weaken the tractor beam's hold on us. It won’t do anything about that massive array of fleet killing weapons though. And I’m still concerned they’ve got more hidden away somewhere. Renko might be a spoilt brat but there’s more to his father than meets the eye.”

"Any more bright ideas?" the Engineer asked them. Just then Tell realised that there was another woman on the bridge, albeit unconscious, she couldn't tell if she was human or not. "Who the hell is this and where did she come from?"

The woman woke up, dazed and confused. She took in a lung fall of air, and was repulsed by the smell of ash and burning. Her head buzzed as she still felt light headed.. Focusing, she realised that she was moving. She could see a pair of legs. It was certain that she was being carried. Where am I? Who is carrying me?' The woman struggled to move, trying to fight her fatigue. Weakly, she lifted her head and looked around. A ship, and a battered one at that. Looks like it has seen some battles. With a flood light, she realised that she was on the bridge. How do I know where I am..? She looked over to notice a woman sitting in a chair, starting at her. The tattered girl stared back. After a quick glance, she knew that that woman was an Engineer. A chief at that from the badges she displayed on her uniform. However, playing captain. Interesting. She didn't know why this Engineer was examining her. Her facial expression shows she probably doesn't know who I am... I could ask though... Maybe.. Maybe she knows who I a- A loud explosion was heard near her, and made her dizzy. Then shouting. The tattered woman didn't get to think about what was going on before passing out again.

“Captain, I’ve been thinking,” Marie said. She paused for the expected smart comments but none came. “I think we should fight this one out. I know I said I’m worried about hidden weapons but...the more I think on it, the more I don’t think there are any. I also don’t think the guy who rules this place is in a very strong position.”

"So what was the deal with the boy then?"

“Well...what was all that about Renko? The boy’s a fool and a braggart. Worse than that, he’s no leader. He wouldn’t inspire loyalty in a puppy dog, let alone hardened troops. I think the ruler – whatever his name is – needed Renko taught a lesson before it’s too late. I think that if Renko doesn’t shape up, ruler-boy is in dire trouble. I also think this show of force is equally an attempt to show who’s boss. If we run now, he wins. If we stand up to him, we stand a chance of knocking him off his perch.”

"If we take the risk of trying to break free of the tractor beam and then cloak the ship...."

"We are being hailed by the station," Air informed.

The view screen lit up with the face of Renko Steele, his usual sneer of superiority had returned despite the swollen nose, "This is Commandant Steele. There has been a change in management. No one humiliates me and lives, including my ex-father. For you, however, I am willing to make an exception. Lower your shields and beam that bitch who dared to cross me over to the station. I will spend years finding new and inventive torments and humiliations for her to endure. If you refuse I will simply tear you from the sky."

"I am sure you have had a look at my arsenal, just as I have scanned yours; two disruptor cannons and a torpedo launcher. You haven't a hope of penetrating our shields, while we can rip you apart on my word. You have thirty seconds."

The screen went dead.

"If Renko is incompetent, he sure hides it well," Air muttered. As an after thought he said, "If we get the ship blown up with Ro' not in the Big Chair, I hope there is no afterlife for him to chase us in."

Hichop calls from the Engineering station, "The torpedo launching mechanism we stole from the Lyan is installed. Perhaps this is a good time to test it!"

Hichop punches a button and Jeeves says simply, "Calculating... Weapon solution confirmed"

The bridge crew feel the Launcher, situated just below the bridge, fire, and Marie registers the launch on the tactile display but nothing on the sensors or view screen.

Then the tractor beam stops as a series of explosions rips through the base. And keeps ripping. Weapons turrets erupt and warehouses full of stolen and volatile goods erupt into space. As the Crew of the FHew watch the very asteroid on which the Starbase is built tears itself apart. Those ships not in the immediate blast radius quickly flee at warp. No one is keen to engage a ship which can blow up an entire asteroid.

As the glow fades, replaced by ripples of the Navigational shields displacing lesser bits of rubble a deep throaty voice sounds from the back of the Bridge, "Report!"

The crew turn to see Ro' propping himself against the bulkhead, but looking clear eyed again, "What did I miss?"

“Oh...nothing much,” Marie replied casually. “Just me giving a demonstration of Klingon mating rituals and us blowing up that station. The others can fill you in on their little adventures. Oh, and I do hope Renko Steele is still alive. I have some unfinished business with him, though I’ll have to think of a new present. I was going to demand he hand over the keys to the station.”

Ro' glanced at Marie and the debris on the view screen, "You are beginning to show a talent for Tactical. I must say I am impressed. What is this?"

The last bit was gestured to the woman who Germite had placed on the floor of the bridge during the excitement.

The woman, lying still on the floor on her back, slowly wakes up and rubs her eyes before starting at the ceiling, mumbling. "The shield's frequency.... At 4.23 Megahertz."

Instead of feeling angry, or was it more from relief that Ro' was here, she went over to help the woman on the floor sit up.

"Can you sit up?" she asks quietly

The woman looks at at the ceiling in a vacant stare, as if her eyes at dead. But then, slowly, she moves her green eyes to look at the engineer's eyes above her. Pushing her green hair out of the way, she mumbles. ".... Yes... Yes I... I can get up..."

The woman sits up slowly as she was still disorientated, but when she finally does, she suddenly looks away from the engineer woman and braces her head with her hands and behind rubbing her temples. She talks softly. "Oww... Ow my head..." The woman's hair slowly changes from green, to orangey-yellow in front of the engineer's eyes. Moving one hand slightly out of the way so that the young woman could stare at the engineer with her bright, orange eyes.... "Who are you...? Where am I...?"

"I'm Tell Hope," she replied "The chief engineer on the Fhew, a Klingon ship. Who are you?"

The tattered woman rubbing her head slowly. "...I don't know who I am... Who am I?"

Ro' groaned, "Another random human. You found it, it's your responsibility now."

"Helm, set course for Federation Space. We have an appointment with Pegasus Fleet."
