The Jefferies tubes were out of the question; filled as they were with poison gas. That meant that HIchop needed to stick to the corridors. Long open stretches with little cover, designed to make it difficult for boarding parties.

At least it was unlikely that he would need to confront Ro' in Hand to Hand combat, where Ro' would have every advantage. Even as it was, HIchop was the underdog. Ro had been in charge of this ship since it was first launched. He had been fighting in it, living in it, eating, sleeping, existing in it. It was almost a much a part of him as a limb.

But limbs can be hacked off. Many warriors had fallen because their trusted limb had failed at a vital moment.

HIchop decided to start at the bridge and work back. He went to Deck 5 and moved along the lower boom till he reached the Torpedo room. He saw the remains of Marie and jaqwI' but moved on quickly up the ladder to the bridge. Here he found Bruce, slumped over the helm console.

Moving to the back of the bridge he stepped into the upper boom, his disruptor ready. He moved slowly down the corridor, checking each of the crew quarters as he moved, finding Mike collapsed on her shrine, but no one else.

He arrived at the rear of the ship and was about to move up the ladder when he noticed a noise coming from the Hold. Carefully he climbed down the ladder into the gloom.

The dingle light in the roof was broken again. No mater what engineering did, it never seemed to stay fixed. However, there was a hand lamp lying on the floor looking to space suit locker.

Mental images leapt through HIchop's head of what Ro' might be planning. Space suit, hold that could open to the vacuum of space...

He dived quickly for the inside airlock console and sealed the bulk head. No way Ro' was going to catch him like...

There was a click and whir. HIchop realised he was standing in the light of the hand torch and behind it, hidden from clear view was the Battle suit they had recovered form the dead world nearly half a decade ago. HIchop and the crew referred to it as HIchop's suit, but in truth, any one could step into it.

He watched the rotary gun spin up and point towards him, but did not feel concerned. The suit had inbuilt protections that meant that even in a wild fire fight it was impossible for the suit to target and kill an ally. Ro' was mistaken to think it could be used on him.

He was therefore shocked (albeit incredibly briefly) to feel the rotary cannon tear him apart.
