In fact the USS Prospero arrived at Starbase 48 before the FHew. Cestus III was now a thriving Federation colony with a reputation for sports, including baseball. The Starbase above it managed a lot of tourist traffic as well as the normal business of SF.

The FHew docked on one of the outer pylons and when the airlock opened they were met by some very familiar faces.

The first was Commander Davis who had been in charge of the recruits during their training. He stepped forward and greeted the Captain with a firm handshake.

"Good to see you again, Captain," he said with his ever present smile. "I trust you are well?"

Ro' snorted, "Well enough to give your Cadets trouble in a ship a tenth the size of theirs."

If anything Davis smiled more. He gestured to the group next to him in ensign uniforms "You will remember Ensigns Masters our Helm officer, Ensign Morse of Operations, Delaine of Security, Christie from Medical and of course Synic our Science officer."

Ro' passed his eye over the group, "There were twenty in the group we tested at the beginning of the year. I see only five here."

"There are another five on the ship, 3 from Synic's department, Merriweather, Thornton and Tapscott, and 2 more from medical, Connor and Booth. The rest have not passed their graduation."

Ro' raised his eyebrows, "You have eliminated half your class in a single year. I did not believe the academy was so demanding."

"A lot of it had to do with the lessons we learned during the simulation," Ensign Christie interjected. "Everyone in the Medical team drew heavily on what Mr Germite taught us."

"Likewise," The Vulcan, Synic, agreed, "The example of Bridge performance and the conduct of your crew were extensively illuminating."

"We were wondering," Davis took over again, "if we might make a slight change to the plan. We have a couple of Officers to act as independent advisers if you like, or we could arrange a swap; one of your crew on the Prospero to observe and one cadet on the FHew. They are observers only, to make sure nothing goes amiss."

Ro' turned to his crew, "Anyone want a soft bed and a warm shower for a change?"

That was an offer Marie found hard to resist. “Does it come with a clean uniform?” she asked.

"I am sure we can find you something," Davis smiled. "Would you prefer to keep your KDF wear or a Generic Starfleet Uniform. You have an honourary rank of Lt Commander during this exercise, I believe."

"That would be," Ro' considered, "an appropriate equivalent. Anyone else want to wear Starfleet Pyjamas instead of a real uniform?"

"I would be interested in serving as an observer on the IKC Fhew," Synic proprosed, "Though I would prefer to keep my uniform."

Ro' snorted, "Fine. Anyone else?"

Marie turned to Tell. “A human wearing a KDF uniform on a Starfleet vessel.... Now that’s not something you’d see every day.” She turned to Davis. “Get me a new uniform and wash this one and I’ll volunteer.”

Tell thought about it. "Yeah why not, only does it come with a bathroom?"

So it was decided; Tell and Marie would get their shower and clean uniforms on the USS Prospero, while Synic would slum it on the FHew.
