Timeline   Evening, Day Two
Ro' stormed across the landing platform, Marie, Marla and the few Beqs who were arrested in tow. HoS saw him coming and that the security forces were pulling back. As the Captain pased he snarled to HoS and HIchop, "Meeting on the Bridge, NOW!"

After they had closed the landing hatch and gathered together Ro' got Marie to explain, as best she was able the goings on for the last two days.

At the end Ro' added, "So they have offered us a full pardon and a promise not to pursue the matter of House Matlh's relation to the smugglers as long as we don't press them on the matter of an armed invasion. Two days and nothing gained. The Beqs tell me that Hay'legh, Jared and Tell were kidnapped from a party, and now that trail is two days cold. And we are stuck on this planet until we can pay the ridiculously high court costs. Any one got any bright suggestions?"

He glanced at HoS, "...that DON'T involve shooting more people or blowing things up?"

“A party!” Marie stared hard at the assembled beqs. “No-one told me that!”

Not that any of them had had any chance – she’d been absent when the Klingons were captured and she’d been careful to have nothing to do with the crew since. Still, the occasional outburst and vituperation never seemed to do any harm when Matlh was present. It tended to divert blame. She considered this new information for a moment, drawing the pause out for greater effect.

“I heard something of a ‘fracas’ at a party two days ago. An Earth trader, I believe. Said something about now us being husband and wife again. He was inordinately pleased with himself but the woman seemed none too happy. In fact....” Again the pregnant pause. “She was unconscious at the time. Or so I heard.”

Ro' turned to Marie, "You have kept this to yourself till now. I assume humans do not like their betrothed limp and unconcious any more than we do? Did you happen to catch the name of the unfortunate woman or the Trader in question?"

“Name? I don’t know his name. I could probably find out though. It’ll cost,” she advised Matlh with a wicked smile, “I’m all out of favours.” If the spice stash was rumbled, she might be able to skim something of the ‘commission’ instead.

"Unfortunately, our credit is already over stretched, unless one of you ahs a spare ship they are keeping quiet about."

Marie took a decision which she knew she’d regret later. She didn’t think she had much choice. “You mentioned a hoard of spices, La. I’d been saving them for an emergency. I think that time might be now. I think I could negotiate them into a suitable recompense for information.”

On second thoughts, it was a small price to pay and it might keep his prying eyes from her other stashes.

Ro' considered her. She seemed to be uncaharateristically generous. Maybe he wouldn't need to kill her off as soon as he expected.

"The information will be usefull, but it won't help us till we can ge the locals to release the tractor beams and mag clamps. That will cost more than any cargo you may have stashed."

He turned to Marla, HIchop and HoS, "What about you three?"

"HoD," One of the Beq's began.

"Human! How many times do I have to tell you speak Human around the Humans?"

"Sorry, Captain. We are being hailed by a Federation trade ship, the SS Cygnet. It is Jared. He says he would like to 'surrender early and beat the rush'."
