Timeline   Day 3 of 7
House Matlh was reinvesting it’s wealth. It was selling off a lot of equipment it had been gathering in preparation for some military coup that went wrong. This did mean it had finances to afford quite luxurious premises on Qo’nos; premises that might have made a Betazoid Diplomat feel welcome.

The rooms were well lit, forgoing the traditional torches and wall sconces for more familiar inset lighting. The beds were padded and even the seats and lounges had cushions on them. Admittedly there was still a lot of red and black in evidence, and most of the hard lines associated with Klingon architecture dominated the space.

Germite was pleased to see that House Matlh’s dedication to health included an understanding and appreciation for basic hygiene and ablutions. They actually had a wash stand and rudimentary sonic shower.

He had been told that the FHew was in port, and that he should expect to be contacted by the crew at some point. He had already met the first officer and quartermaster in Troka’s Bat’leth. Then the previous Medic and the… what Head Thug? How did these positions work on a Klingon ship?

There was a chime at the door, which was unusual. Most of the Klingons just left him alone. He was not worth their consideration. He stood up and walked over to the door.

The door opened to reveal and elderly Klingon in civilian clothing stood at the door. It didn’t take Germite more than a moment to recognise Ro’, Captain of the FHew. From what he had been hearing around the place he was a legend even amongst legends. Apparently his B’rel had taken on and beaten more than one Galaxy class. It was his reputation alone that made Germite such a target for warriors from the lower houses. Many were willing to kill to get on his crew. Now he stood at the door.

Germite thought for a moment about the proper way to greet Ro'. He settled on "nuqneH." He hoped that Ro' would not consider that a rude greeting, but it was the only way he knew to greet someone in Klingon.

Ro’ gave a slight bow, “I come seeking Germite Ephilom.”

Germite bowed back to match Ro's bow. "How can I assist the honorable HoD Ro'."

Ro' seemed surprised by the response, "Well, you can start by letting me in."

Germite stepped aside and motioned for Ro' to enter.

Ro' strode in side with a confident air. He barely glanced at the surroundings of the room, turning instead to face the man. "I have been asked to consider you for a post on my ship."

"Counselor YIghegh told me that you had need for a better trained medic on your ship."

Ro' tilted his head as if unwilling to concede that point, "I am doing so for two reasons; the request comes from one who was a crewman and earned my respect, and also he who is head of my House and earned my loyalty. You, however, have done neither... yet."

He lowered himself slowly down into one of the chairs, "So why don't you impress me Human? Why should I take YOU as a crewman?"

Germite paused for a minute to compose his reply. He did not wish to challenge Ro', but at the same time, didn't wish to appear weak in front of him either. He knew he was on shaky ground. He looked back to Ro', "I am a trained battlefield medic with over 10 years of experience in combat and war zones. A warrior such as yourself can see the need to have a medical professional on your staff. My cause had been my own until I signed on with the Red Army. After its defeat under Counselor CoQ, Counselor YIghegh chose to save my life, and as such, I owe him to do my best to keep you and your crew at your best as long as I can."

Ro' stood again, "A considered answer. You survived the fight with the red Army, so you are no coward and no weakling. You also think before you act, which puts you ahead of many of my crew as you will have found out for yourself by now. The crew that have met you consider you to be a passable asset. You have a blood debt to pay, and that means something to you, so you understand something of honour."

He strode up to Germite, and the human tensed for a blow but did not flinch back. he had been expecting some sort of attack and was ready for it. However Ro' simply faced him.

"Have you ever been to a Right of Ascension ceremony?"

"I have not previously had such an honor."

"They are not for the weak hearted. The son of one of our crew is to go through it today at noon. He is not Klingon, and I expect it to take a heavy toll on him. You will attend. If he passes, he will be joining our crew and it will be your job to patch up any damage so he can get married in the next few days."

"If he fails, the damage will be severe and it may be your job to end him for his own sake and that of his father. I will expect you to perform that rite as well. Acceptable?"

Germite thought about that for a moment. He spent most of his career trying to keep people alive. He had also seen his share of soldiers that were beyond help. In those cases, he gave them some painkillers and left them to die. Then he moved on to help the soldiers that he could. "I accept."
