Getting to the transporter room was proving to be more difficult that Marie anticipated. It wasn't so much the buffeting of the ship – that was to be expected on this rust bucket. It wasn't even all those Klingons yelling – that also was to be expected. It was..... Marie did not like to admit it...she did not even like to contemplate the possibility that....

Marie, you're raving. Get your act together!

Marie put one foot in front of the other. Transporter Room, she reminded herself. Guest.

She allowed that mantra to flow inside her head. Transporter Room...Guest.

She touched the side of her forehead. Her fingers came away sticky. She looked at them. Transporter Room...Guest. She stumbled on, hands held out to catch herself on convenient walls.

She'd stumbled about twenty metres when she realised that there was no blood dripping on the carpet. She inspected the wound and saw....

Excuses! That's all you've ever....

Marie shook her head. There was no way she was going to put up with this self recrimination. There was only one way out. She rose, took a deep breath and, one foot after the other, she set off for the Transporter Room again.
