The crew were irritable. The frustration of the last mission had taken its toll and many were itching for a chance at some action to prove themselves capable. Ro' seemed particularly agitated. It didn't help that everyone was cramped in quarters so tight that there was nowhere to get away. Tell had been unable to practice her music. Israna had stayed locked in her quarters cleaning and repairing old disruptor rifles and avoiding the Klingon crew. HIchop seemed to be spending all of his time in the hold working on the giant battle suit, which meant he and Marie were constantly getting in each other's way. Even Jared, holed up in the computer area, was finding it hard to find clear space to think.

The news Ro' was about to break would not lift anyone's mood.

"SoQwI'," he bellowed to get their attention. "Be silent!"

The room slowly quietened.

"ToH! We have been asked to attend Starbase 270 to aide Starfleet in the planned implementation of a combined Klingon/Federation task force. Apparently the FHew has done such a bang up job that others want to have a go at this miserable life. So we are all to attend as guest lecturers for a group of Academy recruits. Apparently they are the best SF has to offer, but there is a thing or two they can learn about being on a KDF ship."

"Listen carefully and I will tell you what topics you will be instructing. You will be expected to talk for no less than one hour and no more than three. There is something in here about the prohibited use of PowerPoint, whatever that is."

"HIchop; Command structure and promotion within the KDF."

Marie sneered. “That should be easy. You won’t have to talk, you can just give them a practical demonstration.”

"Care to join me" Hichop threw back. What was strange is that it actually sounded like a joke.

"Tell; care and maintenance of KDF tech."

"What? KDF Tech? You are joking right?" moaned Tell. "I don't do tech. I'm a bloody engineer not a maintenance technician. I change, adapt and adjust tech so I can blow it up when I'm finished with it. I'm not doing tech; I'm doing engines. I know about engines, engines are my life. Ask any one here; they can see that I'm good at what I do. Or music, I could do music; that would be good to do. "

"They didn't ask for that. Nor am I asking if you WANT to. You have your assignment," Ro' responded. "Jared; Integration of Federation and Xeno tech."

Jared looked surprised, but not upset.

"Uuuh... sure! I've probably already got some notes I can adapt. How xeno are we talking? You want 'Using Disruptor packs in a Phaser Rifle', 'Adapting Breen exosuits for human EVA duty', or 'Tribbles as a power source and other improvised biotechnology'?"

Ro' shrugged, "They're starfleet engineers. They can already turn rocks into replicators. I just think it is about working with tech that is... low tech by their standards. Surviving without Tricorders, and so forth."

"Marie; The role of Honour within trade."

She turned to Tell. “Does Klingon honour extend to trade?”

"The one and only time you tried to apply honour Marie was on some god forsaken planet you dragged me to and then you and your applied honour got us thrown off it. Do you know they still have us on their most wanted list and don't think I didn't check. "

“You’re right, I never apply honour. Why give the poor merchant a fair chance? Maybe the title should be ‘How to not be honourable in trade with Klingons’.”

"How about '1001 uses for Klingon Honour. Number 1, using it as a draft excluder'."

“Yeah, maybe I could subtitle it ‘Training tips for running very, very fast and dodging in crowds’.”

"Germite: Klingon Field Medicine."

"He knows plenty about that," Tell complained. "That's not a tough one."

“You're right. Staying under three hours won't be a problem. It’ll be difficult to pad it out to one: Klingon Field Medicine. There is no such thing. End of lecture.

Germite rolled his eyes. "Klingon Field Medicine is rather straight forward. No need for analgesics, they actually like the pain. It's all about keeping them on their feet and getting them back in the fight."

"Good," Ro' agreed. "They have some expert medic attending. Make sure you tell her that. Linx; Current Political situation within the Empire."

"Israna;" here he paused for just a moment, "Anger Management."

Israna growled. "I don't have anger management, you rodent..."

Ro' had to agree, "I did not assign the tasks. This is what Starfleet asked for. Show them how well you manage your anger around Klingons. Teach them to do the same."

"We will arrive at the starbase in..."

"28 hours at current speed," Bruce provided.

"So I want you all ready to give you lecture in 24 hours. You may not feel like this is a role for you but tomorrow you will represent, not just Humans in the KDF, but your ship, your crewmates, and House Matlh. It will go very badly for people who do not do their best."

“What about our new Orion? I wouldn’t mind attending her lecture: Top twenty tips on seducing a Klingon.

Tell nudged Marie. "I'd pay to attend that one."

“The sequel could be Ten favorite Klingon sex positions,” Marie quipped, “or

"Truth be told," Ro' said uncomfortably, "I haven't informed Starfleet of Mariaa'n's presence. I feel it may make them more uncomfortable. However, she should at least attend the lectures herself, to learn how it should be done. You can assist for the presentations. It will give you an excuse to attend them all."

"What are you going to do Cap'n?" asked Tell. "As you have volunteered us it's only right you should lecture on something yourself. With all your wealth of exceptional experience behind you I should think the lecture hall would be at full capacity."

"I will be giving a lecture on Klingon Tactics. May'bel will be giving a lecture on Hand to Hand fighting," he hesitated, looking at May'bel, "Without grenades and other explosives."

May'Bel cracked his knuckles and looked pleased.

"Dismissed!"

Marie sidled up to Hichop as they left the room. “I have a suggestion,” she said. “How about you and May’bel combine your lectures and you use our beloved Captain as your guinea pig...ah, you demonstrate on him?”

The look on her face suggested she was only half joking.
