The away team were still taking of their HEV suits when Ro' and Marie arrived in the hold.

"Hail brave Warriors!" he bellowed with genuine pride. "We have met the enemy on their turf and we are victorious. Not a warrior lost! What spoils did you take? What information, what tech, what news?"

Before anyone could answer, Marie raced over to Tell and held her in a smothering embrace. “I thought....” she babbled, almost in tears, “I thought I’d killed you.”

Then she realised that Tell still had half her EVA suit on. She stepped back a half pace but still held the engineer by the shoulders. “How did you...? How did you get off the Lyan ship before it exploded?”

At the precise moment Marie entered, the engineer's only thought was coffee, and lots of it. But the force of Marie's hug almost knocked Tell sideways. If it hadn't have been for her suit, they both would have ended up in a heap the floor.

"It would take more than you to kill me," the feisty engineer replied, taking off the rest of her gear, but she was touched by Marie's concern. "Besides, if I told you how I got off the Lyan ship I would have to kill you," smirked Tell.

Jared glanced sideways at May'Bel.

"Did I miss something?" he whispered to the Klingon warrior. "I thought we just teleported!"

May'Bel just shrugged. For him, watching the Quatermaster and the Engineer relate was like watching Targs who'd been eating bad fungus. It only LOOKED like it made sense.

Marie took a full step backwards and let Tell go. She found it hard to tell whether it was sheer relief or a sense of accomplishment which lit Tell’s eyes. “Come on,” Marie said, “I’ve got a mug of double strength raktajino with your name on it.”

"Now your talking my language." replied Tell

Just out of his suit Hichop grabbed Ro's arm in what was both a warm gesture and a little bit of a arm wrestle. If it were not for the smiles between them others might have thought it would end in a fight. The sad truth was that others were wrong for thinking it still couldn't. "We took the tech that allows the Lyan to place a torpedo into another ship undetected until it is too late, and soon we will be able to move our weapons out of phase and attack our enemies. This is a great victory".

And as the tension in each of their arms dropped Hichop could feel it fading yet again. Hichop could not neglect the fact the suit had changed him. It preoccupied his thoughts. He had barley got back on ship and already he was thinking of ways to spend more time tinkering with his suit. It had taken something from him, his aggression. And perhaps for any other race this would be a gift, but for a Klingon it was a disgrace. Now, unlike the insults of the past, his flat forehead seemed to rightly reflect his new true nature.

Ro' did not seem to notice his first officer's change. his eyes lit up on the sight of the device in Jared's hands.

"Can we make it work?" he breathed.

"I can't see why not," Jared answered. "I mean... the physics principles are pretty straightforward. And experimental weapons technology is practically what Jeeves was designed for. His haze-logic matrix might even do a better job of aiming the thing in real time than the Lyan could - I suspect they would have struggled to hit anything that wasn't stationary, given the maths involved."

"Might take a little time to get it fixed up, and you might need a spare photon launcher assembly for us to tinker with. But in theory it should all work."

"See to it!" Ro' bellowed, delighted. "But first, a meal! And I think bonus pay for all one the next stop."
